The Wounds You Don’t See
2019
Acrylic on canvas

My capacity for joy has grown in proportion to my capacity for grief and sorrow. Pain makes us slow down and tend to our well-being, allowing for us to be present to whatever small moment of gratitude we can hold onto to keep going. Feelings of discomfort help bring awareness to the body and what we really need. This piece celebrates the wounds I have tended to over my lifetime, transforming them into sparkly gems of raw vulnerability and pure healing and connection within my own heart and empathizing with others who may relate.
